Georg Mehl is an internationally renowned expert in organic functional materials. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher on LC polymers at the University, after completing his PhD at the University of Freiburg in Germany. Prof Mehl joined the University of Hull as academic staff a Lecturer in 1997 and has been Professor for Organic and Materials Chemistry since 2010.His research interests are in organic functional materials, including (1) Chemistry - Theory Interface: exploration of new low ordered liquid crystal phases, (2) Nanoparticle - Soft Matter Interface: Design and investigation of nanoparticles functionalized with liquid crystals, (3) Addressing Function and Order in Organic Materials: Photoactive and photochromic Liquid Crystals.
